Sapa hotel stay - 2 days / 3 nights
Night 1: Overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai
You’ll be taken by our staff to the Hanoi Railway Station at 20:00 PM and escorted to your train cabin. Then relax in your first class, air conditioned cabin (soft-sleeper, 4-berths with locking door). You’ll arrive in Lao Cai, near the Chinese border, early the next morning.
Day 1: Sapa Town, Silver Waterfall and Tram Ton Pass (B/L)
Your guide and driver will meet you at the Lao Cai train station. Drive for one hour up the Hoang Lien Son Mountains until you arrive in Sapa. Enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains, valleys and terraced rice fields along the way.
After breakfast, we’ll take a walk around town and stop at the market, where colorfully dressed ethnic minority people are selling locally made and produced products, including various vegetables, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, medicinal herbs, clothing and souvenirs. You’ll have opportunities to talk with them, take their photos and make friends. They dress in their traditional costumes, which they make themselves.
After spending some time at the market, walk uphill to the top of Ham Rong Mountain for a view of the spectacular mountains of Sapa and the surrounding area. We’ll visit an orchard and a small museum to learn about the ethnic minority people living in Sapa and throughout the northwest region of Vietnam.
In the afternoon, your guide and driver will drive you to visit the beautiful Silver Waterfall, then farther up the mountain to Tram Ton, the highest mountain pass in Vietnam at a summit of 1,800 meters (5,900 feet). Be sure to bring your camera to capture the magnificence of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, as well as the spectacular landscapes throughout the high country. Afterwards, we’ll drive back to Sapa. Spend the night at your hotel in Sapa.
Day 2: Explore the Muong Hoa Valley, night train return to Hanoi (B, L)
Today, you’ll spend the entire day exploring the amazing Muong Hoa Valley. We’ll take a 4-wheel drive from Sapa and follow the only road built on this side of the mountain range. Enjoy the views and landscapes of high mountains, deep valleys, meandering streams, waterfalls and magnificent terraced rice paddies. Along the way, we’ll leave the main road, visiting tribal villages along the way, including Ta Van of the Zay, Su Pan of the Black H’mong, and Giang Ta Chai of the Red Zao people. There will be opportunities for you to meet and talk with the locals, visiting with them in their homes and watching them work.
We’ll return to Sapa in the afternoon, so you’ll have a little time to refresh before returning to Lao Cai Railway Station for your return to Hanoi. Return to Hanoi in your soft-sleeper 4-bed air-conditioned cabin, arriving around 5:30 AM the next day.
